Before june 2021
If you have read some articles from me, it will be clear by now i have become a Fujifilm X camera and Olympus OM Zuiko lens fan, however, most of my photographic life I have worked with Pentax and Pentax lenses, and even today my 6 to 7y. old Pentax K3 Dslr is still one of my main cameras. An Optical Viewfinder and In Camera Image Stabilization are still major assets compared to the advantages of many mirrorless cameras.
A camera comparison of the 5y younger Fuji X-T30 at https://cameradecision.com/compare/Fujifilm-X-T30-vs-Pentax-K-3 makes that painfully clear.
That said, shooting manually with a Fujifilm X camera also has its advantages.
The weight difference of almost half a kilo, compactness,
focus peaking with image magnification and the typical Fujifilm “out of camera” image quality, just to name a few.
After june 2021 :
I never thought I’d ever write this, but my entire Pentax gear is up for sale!
After purchasing the Fujifilm X-H1, there was no reason left for me to keep my Pentax gear any longer.
So from now on I am no longer a Pentaxian, but a Fujiian !
However, a little explanation here:
The switch from Pentax to Fujifilm is not because mirrorless cameras are better, optical viewfinders still have a big advantage over EVF, due to the lower power consumption they shoot more pictures. Also, not because of the weight, because the X-H1 weighs almost as much as a DSLR,
the only real reasons I made the switch are the following:
- No PASM dial but real ISO and Shutter speed dials -> like a “real” camera from the analog era
- A (very) large bright EVF viewfinder combined with focus peaking, which makes it easier to shoot manually
- A larger mirrorless camera that fits very well in the hand, just like a top-class Pentax
The “only” Fujifilm cameras that meet this requirement (and at the same time the only brand) are the X-T series and the X-H1 in particular.
When I first saw it it was love at first sight, but then came the disappointment. Years passed before I really started to appreciate it. Now it shines at special occasions, or when I need a stealth camera, and it’s my perfect all-round “Go To” camera.

The X-T1 was the Tojan Horse I think, no bad intentions though,
but for the first time a Fuji camera was more than what I bought it for in the first place, and that was to use it with manual lenses.
It made me re-think everything.
Camera Category : It’s a Work Horse, Back Up, Die Hard Action Camera – However, I use it mainly for manual photography with Zuiko lenses.
The X-T20, actually I wanted to sell this camera, because it didn’t have the features that the X-T1 and X-H1 had, namely the dedicated dials. For a while I wanted to trade it in for an X-T2, but then I thought that as a second camera an extra X-H1 was a much better idea. But then I thought that this little camera was actually worth keeping. It is a pocket X-T2 and even has some features that the X-T2 does not have. So, a keeper for now.
Fujifilm X-H1 – the Backup Camera
Yes, the decision has been made, it has become the X-H1 again, seemed logical actually, why invest in an X-T2 at 3/4 of the price of this one?

Fujifilm X-H1 – the Main Camera
The camera that changed everything.
The camera that made me say goodbye to my beloved Pentax K-3, and all my other Pentax gear.
The camera that is the perfect bridge between DSLR and Mirrorless.
