Finally, they are here !
Prior to this new series of Luts “Cinematic” that I developed (and still are), a lot of research went into cinematic color design and film color schemes. The Lut sets I’ve been working on are geared towards Drama, Comedy, Action and Crime, All the Luts mentioned here and in the Cinematic series are intended for use in photography only.
For my first set of Luts “Crime Scene” I used 4 shades of Green Orange Blue and Teal. The color patterns and schemes are my own interpretation based on the work of graphic designer Roxy Radulescu.
The first Lut used a Complementary Color Scheme: Crime Scene GO – green and orange, the second: Crime Scene GOB – green, orange and blue, is based on a Triadic Color Scheme, and the third: Crime Scene GOT is a Split-Complementary Color Scheme with a mix of green, orange and teal.
These Luts are like a glass filter, and just like you have different strengths in glass filters, you have to adjust the strength of the effect here. At maximum I would call the filter “extreme”, for normal use I would set strength to about 70%, for a more subtle effect 50% and even less is recommended.
Below are some examples when using the PictureFX Crime Scene Luts. The set values of 50% and 70% are just examples to show what the filter does, much depends on the exposure, the subject and the desired effect. Under the saying less is more, always start to increase the strength of the Lut from zero to the point where the desired effect is achieved.
